Project Overview

Kodiak Gas Services (KGS) is a rapidly growing company in the oil and gas industry. As they expanded, they encountered a frustrating problem: their website was becoming unmanageable. The custom-built design created by a previous agency was not user-friendly and required too much time and technical knowledge to maintain. This was a significant drain on their internal marketing resources, preventing them from focusing on more critical marketing & sales tasks. They were also missing out on potential leads and inquiries due to a disconnected email-sending server and a lack of proper integration between their systems.

Where Kodiak Gas Services Started

Since it was entirely custom-developed, KGS had a website that was difficult to update, which meant their internal team was spending hours each week just trying to make simple changes or paying significant fees to have the developer maintain their site. The website also didn’t have Google Analytics deployed, making it hard to track visitor data or understand how the site was performing.

On top of this, their email-sending server had not been properly setup and faced compatibility and deliverability issues with their host WP Engine. This was a major issue, especially through their recently announced $854 million acquisition of CSI Compressesco. They needed to make sure old CSI customers were able to get in touch to get their questions answered about the acquisition.

While we were mid-project, the scope expanded to include a hub page that communicated the details about the acquisition. After a quick 15m training video, our contact was able to create this page within Elementor in under an hour – this would have been impossible within the old builder.

What Kodiak Gas Services Wanted

KGS needed a website that was easy to manage and update, even for non-technical staff. They wanted to save time and reduce the frustration that came with their old system. They also wanted better visibility into their website’s performance through proper analytics integration. With the company acquisition underway, they needed reliable email communication to ensure all their announcements and important messages were delivered on time.

What We Did For This Project

We started by addressing the root of KGS’s website issues. First, we rebuilt their website using a flexible, user-friendly platform (Elementor) that allowed their team to easily make updates without needing technical expertise. This change immediately saved them about 15 hours per week, as the internal staff could now manage content updates quickly and efficiently.

Next, we integrated Google Analytics and Google Search Console directly into the new website. This gave KGS the tools they needed to track visitor data, understand where their traffic was coming from, and identify which parts of their site were driving the most engagement. With these insights, KGS could make informed decisions about their online presence, optimizing their content and marketing strategies to better serve their audience. We quickly learned their website was generating nearly 10,000 visitors per month purely from organic and brand marketing.

We also overhauled how their WordPress website was setup to send transactional-based emails. We made sure that all the email settings were correctly configured on their server using WP SMTP, ensuring that important messages were sent and received without a hitch. This was crucial during their acquisition process, as it allowed them to communicate effectively with stakeholders, customers, and the media.

We used Chat GPT to help construct the HTML for the code used in the email template below.

In addition to these technical improvements, we provided extensive training to KGS’s internal team. We made sure they were comfortable using the new website platform, understood how to interpret analytics data, and knew how to manage their email system. This empowered them to take full control of their online operations without needing to rely on external help for every small change.

The Results We Drove

The impact of these changes was significant. With the new website platform, KGS’s team saved 10 hours of work each week, freeing up valuable time to focus on growing their business. The site’s improved usability led to an increase in visitors, with 12,000 people now exploring the site each month. Thanks to the more reliable email system and better visitor tracking, KGS also saw a substantial rise in inquiries, receiving over 30 potential customer contacts each month.
